Jackson Cruise FD Torture Test: Could We Break it?

It has been a saga dealing with this boat, but I think in the end the customers are the real winners. We kinda held Jackson’s feet to the fire and it seems to have paid off. Thanks to everyone who has followed along on this story. We will have the new Jackson Boonedox rudders available as soon as they are released!

Happy Paddlin!

Mother Load Kayak Anglers Summer Splash [Lake McClure]

Made it down to Lake McClure to support the MKA Summer Splash event at Lake McClure. The Central Valley Kayak Fishing scene has been blowing up, and I’ve yet to make it one of their events. So when I heard they were doing a paddle only class, a woman’s class, and a 65+ class I knew it was something I wanted to be at. Steve really built this event to attract new faces and expose them to the community that this sport is known for. He did a bang up job at that. Simple and clean ran tournament, great after party with food and a casting competition, and then quick and easy awards ceremony and raffle. All the things that make for a great day!

Congrats to James Pratt on the Big Win. Thanks to Steve and his amazing team for putting it on and including us. As long as they work to grow this sport, we will be there to support them every step of the way!

Happy Paddlin!

This Kept Me Up At Night: Jackson Cruise Update

So as you know last week we gave the Jackson Kayak Cruise a harsh review. The steering of this kayak was just not up to par with their competition, and honestly, we found it pretty annoying to pedal. I couldn’t help but feel that if they only had a different rudder our review might have been very different. That night I woke up at 1am and couldn’t get the idea of a better rudder out of my head. I was thinking about bolting on some starboard, melting the rudder and trying to reshape it, etc. Fast forward to Saturday when we finally had time to mess with it. I handed to the idea to Matt who realized we had a broken Boondox Rudder lying around. He busted out his Dremel and the rest is Youtube history. We are super stoked on the outcome. I put a call into Tim Parks from Boondox who is going to be sending me out a prototype he made up to fit the Jackson. I’ll be testing it and providing him feedback. Hopefully, we get a solution that is ready for the public soon!

Thanks for being a part of the journey with us! We’ll keep you up to date on the Boondox version.

Pedal Drive Shootout: Hobie Outback VS Jackson Cruise FD VS Native Manta Ray

Pedal Drive Shootout 2.0. Light and Fast!

Bam Miller has been dominating this year’s Yak A Bass Tournament trail in a borrowed kayak, and now he’s shopping for the perfect kayak to suit his needs. This video is basically him demoing a few boats that fit his needs and getting his feedback along the way. Remember this is just one person’s perspective and you should always arrange your own demo if your thinking about buying a kayak. What works for one person may not work for everyone. Please take this review for what it is, a simple afternoon on the water with three buddies who love to fish and play in boats.

Your option may vary and we encourage you to share it in the comments. Thanks for watching and happy paddlin!

Pod Cast #1: Bam Miller- His Record-Breaking Weekend at Yak A Bass Delta

Had a moment to sit down and talk to one back to back winner of the Yak A Bass NorCal trail events, Bam Miller. This past weekend at the Yak A Bass Delta event he put up 100″ back to back days to get one of the second highest scores in Kayak Bass Fishing history, and the largest bag ever recorded in Public Water.

Was Not Expecting This! (Abandon Kayaks/ Cosumnes River Misadventure)

Went out for what I was expecting to be a simple paddle around the Cosumnes River Preserve, ended up being a sketchy paddle through some flooded, heavy wooded sloughs. Although I made it out find, a couple other kayaks didn’t get so lucky! Looks like they flipped, lost their gear and hopefully swam to the shore and ditched the boats. I was not able to pull them on bail the water out because the kayaks did not have bulkheads or floatation. I hope this serves as a public service announcement to do your research before heading out, tell someone where your headed and always always wear your PFD.

It ended up being a beautiful paddle on Middle Slough and Lost Slough. A great area to explore, but you just need to check flows at Cosumnes before making the trek. If you have any questions about river flows, give us a call or check in at the CRP Visitor Center.
